U.S. Army / Re: 68th Armor - Post Your "Silver Lions" Insignia
« on: March 29, 2016, 08:22:33 pm »
Hi Lars,
Very nice display.  I really like that round one in the top right corner.  I don't think I have ever seen one of those before.  We have a couple that we could add but our collection is packed up for a move at the moment and it will be a while before I can dig anything out to respond.  Meanwhile, keep up the good work.
  Dave

Hi Phill,
I guess I never realized that there were two color variants of those German-made patches.  Now we'll have to look for the one we don't have.
  Thanks,
  Dave

Hi Laura,
Welcome to the ASMIC forum.  I left you a post on your "new member" thread on the USMF about our upcoming show in Woodbridge, VA on April 10th.  We would be very happy to see you there.  The information is on this forum as well.  If you can't find it please let me know and I will send you a flier about it.  There is also a show at Ft Belvoir on the first Sunday in May.
Once again, welcome to ASMIC and the ASMIC forum.

Shows / Update on the April 10th Off-Post Show in Woodbridge, VA
« on: March 23, 2016, 08:03:10 pm »
Things are moving along nicely for the new show next month.  We have reservations for 71 tables, so far.  Lots of collectors who have not been to a Belvoir Show in a long time are telling us that they will be at the Off Post Show.  We have reservations from dealers from as far away as NY and NC.  There is still time to reserve a table.  Contact Dave Johnson at email:  bro6970@gmail.com to reserve a table.

Foreign / International / Re: The Misterious "BIC MAC" Uniform
« on: March 20, 2016, 07:46:18 am »
Lars,
That's a great piece of detective work on your part.  I can just imagine running across one of these uniforms in a thrift store and wondering what in the world it could be since it has a J.C. Penney label and German insignia.  Also, those are some great patches with the Arizona flag incorporated into them.
One question--when you say the pocket patch was made locally, do you mean it was made in Arizona?  The one on the Big Mac appears to be woven and I'm wondering who they found in Arizona at that time to make a patch that way?  I'm not saying it could not have been done, just wondering if it was a local insignia merchant who sent overseas for the work to be done?
  Anyway, very interesting article.
  Thanks,
  Dave

Shows / Re: NEW! Northern Virginia Off-Post Show
« on: March 15, 2016, 07:42:56 am »
Yesterday we sent out a notice about this new show that was intended to go to former members for whom we still have an email address.  Monday mornings being what they are, we sent it to current members instead.  Thank you to all the current members who emailed me about their actual membership status.  It was good to hear from so many of you.

On a brighter note, the new Off-Post Show is coming along nicely.  We have reservations now for over two thirds of the tables.  Looks like it will be a very good show and I hope to see as many current and former members there.  If you wish, I will be able to check your membership status for you at the show.

Lars,
That would probably be a good idea.  It is probably already on the Webmaster's list of things to do while making improvements to the Forum.
  Thanks,

Just an update on the new Off-Post show in Woodbridge, VA on April 10th.  We have now had reservations for over half the tables!  We are hoping that it will be a sell-out but it is still too early to tell.  We have heard from people as far away as NC  and NY that they will be there.  We are doing lots of advertising locally with flyers and notices in the local papers.  Our webmaster, Gary,  has helped out by sending a notice to all members in Area 2 who have email addresses on file with ASMIC and we will be sending snail-mail flyers to all those who do not have email addresses.  Please help get the word out by passing the information along to other interested parties.  And, please ask any questions you have here on the ASMIC Forum so all can see the answers.
  Thanks,
   Dave J.

Lars,
Hmm, this is a question that is beyond my ability to answer.  We will have to get our Webmaster Gary to answer it for you.
  Thanks,

Tabs are a great subject to discuss.  Here are some various theater-made tabs for the 88th Division from the immediate post-WWII period.

Hi Paul,
Good to see you on this forum.  I'm sure that Gary is mulling over those suggestions and they are worthy ones, too.
